Checking-in/Out

  • Duty Wardens are typically on-site by 7pm on Friday evenings. If you would like earlier access to campsites please make a request when booking. Please understand it is not always possible to accommodate early arrival times. If we can accommodate an early arrival you may not have access down the main track, from the car park, with a vehicle. You should be prepared to carry the kit.

  • Early Check-in for camping pitches is not subject to an early check in fee, but if you have a building too then an early check in fee will be added to your invoice if early access to the building can also be given.

  • Groups are required to notify the warden team when they arrive. A Warden will check you on to the camping pitch.

  • Groups are required to notify the warden before you are ready to leave so that they can check the camping pitch with you before you leave site. You will be required to resolve any issues found during the check before leaving.

Breakages, Damage and Repairs

  • Please note that all breakage’s and damage must be reported to the warden as soon as possible and will be charged for. If you find any damage on arrival at your site it is your responsibility to report it to the warden immediately to avoid being charged.

  • Campers and visitors are not permitted to carry out any repairs or alterations to any building or items within a building. If something requires repairing you must report this to the Duty Warden.

Tent Safety

  • Pitch sleeping tents at least two metres apart to reduce tripping hazards and prevent the spread of fire.

  • Cooking tents should be at least five metres away from the others.

  • Warn your participants of the risk of trips on pegs and guy ropes. It is an unfamiliar environment and they are not obvious in the dark when you are tired.

  • Follow all instructions on gas bottles. Ensure your kit is properly checked before use and is in good working order.

  • Be aware too of the dangers from Carbon Monoxide – not only in the cooking area but also from lamps or gas fridges. Ensure there is good ventilation within your cooking tent. Do Not use a gas stove to heat tents.

  • Keep frying pans on stable stove tops to avoid burns from hot oil and spilt boiling water.

TV and film licensing

  • We do NOT hold a licence for TV reception by campers/visitors and therefore the use of reception equipment is NOT permitted. The showing of DVD’s/films is a breach of licensing laws unless YOU buy an MPLC licence. Failure to purchase a licence can render YOU and John’s Lee Wood Campsite liable to prosecution.

  • ALL groups are requested to download the Emergency Contact List, complete and hand the form to the duty wardens on arrival at the campsite.

Scouting Nights Away Notification

  • For Scouting groups camping under the ‘Nights Away’ scheme – The permit holder MUST hold a valid permit on arrival and the permit holder MUST be on site during the night time as required by POR.

  • It is the groups responsibility to ensure that DLV/CLV authorisation of a ‘NAN’ has been granted. John’s Lee Wood, it’s volunteers and Trustee board will not be held responsible for any group staying over without the relevant DLV/CLV authorisation.

  • If using the Nights Away Passport scheme the passport must be fully completed & shown to the duty wardens on arrival. The duty wardens will check the passport & phone the Nights Away permit holder (if not present) to confirm the passport & to notify the groups safe arrival.
